Process

Planning

The first part of the process is for us to get together and talk about your Web site, we'll talk about things like:

Once we've talked about your Web site I'll put together a Web site proposal. The proposal will include some goals for your Web site based on our conversation. These goals will help create a structure for your site but will also allow you to measure how successful your site is.

If you are happy with the proposal then it's time to start work on the site.

This is when you'll need to make the first payment of either 33% or 50% depending on the size of the project.

Design and build

The next stage is to start getting the content together for your Web site.

Too many small business Web sites just copy the content from brochures to create their Web site content. The problem is that people read Web pages in a different way to brochures.

So we'll work together and create content designed especially for the Web.

After that the site will be designed to compliment your content, making it better for your customers to use (and therefore giving you more of their business). Your content won't just be dropped into a pre-made template.

I'll show you an initial design and get your feedback and then put together a revised design. This usually happens a couple of times until you are happy with the design and the rest of the site can be put together.

On larger projects (over £1000) you'll need to make a second payment of 33% once the layout design is agreed.

Once everything is ready you'll be able to preview the site and make any final changes before the site goes live. You might want to throw a party and celebrate with some cake.

This is when the final payment is due.

Staying fresh

It's important to keep the content on your Web site fresh if you want to keep visitors coming back.

Web site statistics come as standard so that you can check things like how many visitors you get and what the most popular pages are. You can use this information to help you develop your Web site. If you subscribe to a support package, then you'll get a handy monthly report with a summary of the most important information without having to look through all the information yourself.

If your Web site included a Content Management System (CMS) then you'll be able to make updates to the site yourself. If your site didn't include a CMS then I can make updates to the site for you. Some of the support subscriptions include a number of hours of updates plus discounts on any more updates. The support page has a few examples of how you might use these hours.

I can help you to plan what features or changes you want to make too. I'll be there to help you develop and expand your Web site, not run away as soon as it launches. We're in this together for the long haul.
